I started painting in 2016, when I lived in Rancho Mirage, California and my wife suggested I needed a hobby for when it was too hot to go outside, 8 months of the year temperatures top 120˚+, so I opted for watercolor painting. I’m British by birth and until 2015 England was my home with easy access to Europe. I’d always enjoyed looking at art and visiting art galleries was a must during my years of travel throughout Europe. How wonderful it must be to create something from nothing, I thought.
Also, for over thirty years Paris, with the Louvre and Musee d’Orsay, the Centre Pompidou, Le Marche de la Creation de Paris Montparnasse, Musée Jacquemart-André, Musée Marmottan-Monet, was my extended summer holiday home and viewing the works of Monet, Renoir, C̕ezanne, Sisley, Pissarro, Manet truly inspired me.
I think, though, what encouraged me most to take up painting was that unlike a photograph, a painting is a record of how the artists sees something and interprets it, and this is how I’ve approached my paintings.
Now I’m always experimenting with different styles of painting and seeing how using different brands of paper and watercolors can bring about a dramatic change to the finished picture. I’ve a long road yet to travel but it’s one that brings great peace and joy with each picture I create.
I’m open to commissions and all my work is available for purchase. Please contact me at tjmaple at aol.com.
