Catherine Hillis moved into Lake of the Woods in 2021 and is proud to be part of the community.
"My paintings can be described as traditional landscapes, still life's and figures, but I try to use my unique perspective to draw the viewer into the world as I see it, incorporating humor or beauty whenever possible in unexpected places. As an eager traveler, and perhaps even a bit of a gypsy, I try to view everyday subjects with fresh eyes." This award winning and nationally recognized painter competes in national exhibitions as well as on the national plein air circuit. She writes comprehensive articles about the medium and is always eager to encourage new artists.
Hillis' work can be seen locally at Sophia Street Studios in Fredericksburg and at the R.H. Ballard Shop in Little Washington or by private appointment. She teaches watercolor painting locally, nationally and internationally. She served as a member of the faculty at the renown Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia; the Lorton Arts Center; Frederick Community College in Maryland, and the Winslow Art Center in Seattle, WA.
