Catherine Hillis moved into Lake of the Woods in 2021 and is proud to be part of the community.
"My paintings can be described as traditional landscapes, still life's and figures, but I try to use my unique perspective to draw the viewer into the world as I see it, incorporating humor or beauty whenever possible in unexpected places. As an eager traveler, and perhaps even a bit of a gypsy, I try to view everyday subjects with fresh eyes. Painting on the national plein air circuit has only enticed me to travel further and wider. I paint both en plein air and in the studio and especially love painting the landscape here in Lake of the Woods."
Mrs. Hillis' work can be seen in Fredericksburg at Canal Quarter Arts. She hosts local classes there, too. Most recently, she was a member of the faculty at the renown Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia; the Lorton Arts Center; Frederick Community College in Maryland, and the Winslow Art Center in Seattle, WA. She continues to teach at the Art League of Hilton Head, as well as nationally and internationally.
