Karen Weingartner

I have always been a colorist.  For me splashing rich, bold, vibrant colors onto paper and canvas is a joy like no other.  I use color as a means of expression.  It is a dominant element in the impact of my work. Joyous, wonderful, beautiful color. 

In my paintings I strive for a balance between the complex and the simple. I use detailed forms or complex patterns with simplistic or rudimentary shapes. I use this unexpected juxtaposition to elicit a feeling of excitement and freshness that is open to the emotional interpretation of the viewer.  

In my abstract works I enhance the use of color and form by using texture and mark making to add emphasis and impact to the piece as a whole. The small, nearly overlooked marks give the larger piece a vitality and interest that fuses all of the elements together, creating a finished work brimming with energy and movement.
