In 1981 the Lake of the Woods Visual Arts Council (LOWVAC) held the first art show for the Lake of the Woods community. In the 40 years since then hundreds of LOW artists and art lovers have participated in the art shows and art-based activities sponsored by LOWVAC - and, now, under the new name, LOW Arts.
The artists of the Lake will enthusiastically welcome the LOW community to our 37th annual fine art show the weekend of September 25-26, 2021 at the LOW Community Center. The 2020 art show was not held due to the pandemic, so our artists are eager to share the work they've created since our last show in September 2019. And, once again, we will be collaborating with LOWLINC as they offer their "Art of Wine" fundraiser on Sunday, September 26 in the Lions Pavilion next to the Community Center.
Artists working in a wide variety of media will be showing their artwork -- and that includes a significant number of artists new to the LOW art show. Visitors can expect to see art in media including pottery, paintings, photography, jewelry, glass art, fiber and wood, mixed media and more. In addition, the Lake Authors of the Wilderness will be on site for sales and signing of their books and the LOW Woodworking Club will reveal the creations made during their 1x3 Challenge.
The raffle of art returns this year to benefit the Orange County Public School art programs. Our focus this year is "Lake Life" and we are very excited about the collaborative work created to make this year's raffle completely unique. First, in collaboration with the LOW Woodworkers Club, there will be six different wooden animal pull toys - animals of the lake - hand painted by LOW artists. There will also be a "basket of art" featuring hundreds of dollars worth of artwork from the participating show artists. Finally, there are two large panels each featuring a dozen small works by LOW Arts members. These panels will be part of a Silent Auction instead of a raffle. Every dollar from raffle ticket sales and Silent Auction will go to benefit the school art programs, so, we hope visitors will "dig deep" to show their support of the arts in schools.
Mark your calendar to attend and take a look at the slideshow below for a preview of artwork that will be available at (or prior to, if you act fast) the Show!
