Elaine and Joe became fascinated with pottery in 1977 when, along with their young children, they visited Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico, and marveled at the distinctive hand coiled pots. It was not until 1999 that Joe found himself inspired sitting at a potter’s wheel in a class at Manassas Clay. Elaine followed a few sessions later.
After retiring from their positions as software engineers at the end of 2005, they designed and built their house at Lake of the Woods with a pottery studio overlooking the lake. In 2007 they moved to Lake of the Woods but continue weekly trips to Manassas for pottery classes.
Working with clay helps to keep their lives ‘centered.’
